The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour has been doing the rounds for seven seasons now and one leg that has been a permanent fixture is the one in Luton. Although Luton may not be the most glamorous city in the world, there is a rich poker tradition there and the GUKPT Luton Main Event always seem to attract some of the biggest names in British poker.
Past winners of the GUKPT Luton Main Event include a certain Sam Trickett who is now number two in the world’s all-time money listings, Richard Gryko, Neil Channing, Charles Chattha and last year’s champion Jamie O’Connor.

O’Conner picked up £45,760 for topping the 155-player field in Season 6, which is still a substantial prize considering it was the lowest attendance ever for this particular event. Like in 2012, this year’s GUKPT Luton Main Event clashes with the ongoing World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE), but with many of the UK’s heroes only planning to play the WSOPE Main Event, the GUKPT could benefit from a boost in numbers.
Entry to the GUKPT Luton Main Event costs £1,000+£70 and for that money players receive 20,000 tournament chips and a 60-minute clock. The organisers are confident of a much larger turnout than last year and have slapped a £200,000 guarantee on the prize pool!
Players can register up to the end of Level 6. Re-entries are permitted until the end of Level 6, too.
Should the £1,070 be out of your reach, you may want to try your luck in the GUKPT Luton Main Event satellites that are running through to the afternoon of October 17.
There are also a number of side events for players to get their teeth into, including a two-day £300+£30 No Limit Hold’em tournament, a £150+£15 Pot Limit Omaha re-entry event and a £100+£10 Bounty Booster.
Stay tuned to UK & Ireland PokerNews over the course of the GUKPT Luton Main Event as we bring you daily recaps of the action emanating from the G Casino, Luton.
